This report is one of the works for subject Ethnic Relations or Hubungan Etnik (UHM2022). This subject is designed to promote students’ unity and integration. This is achieved by involving students in field work and other dynamic team activities applying the basic concept and of ethnic relations in Malaysia.Students are required to produce field work report based on their observation on selected topics related to the Malaysian multi ethnic society. Ethnic relations issues are integrated in the content of the course where students should analyze critically as well as demonstrate positive values and foster unity and integration among students.
This project is about studies on national policies that have in Malaysia. So, we have chosen National Sports Policy as our topic for this work activity. Here, some information about this topic, National Sport Policy. There are 3 words come from National Sport Policy, which are national, sports, and policy. The definition for national can be replaced as Malaysia, our beloved country. For sports, it can be defined as physical activities. In Malaysia, there are so many activities or sports have in Malaysia like badminton, soccer, hockey, basketball, golf, tennis, and others. Policy here mean typically described as a principle or rule to guide a decisions and achieve rational outcomes. In Malaysian, the government has been state all the guidelines and principle or rule that have in Malaysia.
Sport is a one of the medium or way to unite all races has in this country. In this perspective, Malaysia is one of the countries that has show and prove that by using sport as a platform to strengthen national integration. Sport is an example of the support beyond the aspirations of 1Malaysia with boundaries of race, religion and politics. To reinforce the achievement of sporting in Malaysia, the National Sport Policy must undergo revision periodically, so that it dynamically in accordance with the methods, ideas and new technology through the developments of sport arena international.
The reasons why Malaysia creates this policy, National Sports Policy are to achieve the objectives that have been target by government themselves. There are many objectives from this policy, first one is to empowering culture of involvement in sport from the community, to improve the knowledge and practice of sports to develop sporting culture in the whole community, to encourage greater sporting activity at all levels for establish a disciplined and united, to provide a sport facilities for the needs of all levels, to develop the sports as an industry and achieving excellence in national and international level with the true sporting spirit.
2) REPORT REVIEW
In this part, we are going to review all the process doing this study form the beginning until the end of this report. The task is given by the lecturer, Mr. Ahmad Bin Ibrahim to conduct a survey on national policy in Malaysia. All groups have been asked to choose one policy from the national policies in Malaysia, so our group has decided to choose one policy which is National Sport Policy. The process of this survey questions started on 1st October 2010 and end at 20th October 2010, around 3 weeks.
Then, we have divided all the work for each of group members that consist of 5 persons. Khairul Afiq is been selected as the leader for this survey questions. Ahmad Fatihy and Banchaa are given the work to create a questions form and distribute it to the group target using a blog and also Facebook as a medium for distribute the survey question. Mazizan and Azrin are going to make an analysis and discussion for each question based on the result collected.
Our group’s target is 30 respondents consist of male and female students. All of them come from the same faculty which is Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Electronics, 3rd year students only. Our group questions have been constructed in one form which make from Google spreadsheets. The spreadsheets are put in blog which is satukelas.blogspot.com and it can be referred to appendix 1. We have asked the entire group’s target to complete all the survey questions. The link for this survey question’s form is:

This survey form consists of 5 questions, which are 1 objective question and the other 4 is opinion or subjective questions. Here, we list out all the questions that have been asked by our group:

(2) What is the main objective of the National Sports Policy?
(3) What are the benefits of the National Sports Policy?
(4) How can National Sports Policy helps in bringing up the integration and unity among Malaysians?
(5) What is the level of the effectiveness of the National Sports Policy?
QUESTION 1:
What do you know about the National Sport Policy?
A large number of our respondents showed no knowledge at all about the National Sport Policy. Most of them defined the policy from their own understandings on the word “National Sport Policy.” 30% of our respondents show a moderate understanding about the National Sport Policy.
Most of our respondent was really familiar with National Sports Policy because National Sports Policy have been implemented since 1988 and that time they were in primary school and as a student who like sport, they like to read sport’s articles and that is why they really familiar with National Sports Policy.
QUESTION 2:
What is the main objective of the National Sport Policy?
Since the name of the policy itself does say a lot about the policy, we believe that this is the reason why almost all of our respondents got the answer right. Most of the answers that we got are sport related. Most of them pick “development” as a main objective in National Sports Policy. Development here means to develop knowledge in terms of sport and to empowering sport practice in a daily life.
However, there is another three main objective in National Sports Policy. First, to form healthy, disciplines and unite communities. Second, to provide facilities in order to fulfill a social, psychology, and psychology needs. Third, to achieve highest achievement in sport arena with a solid spirit.
QUESTION 3:
What are the benefits of the National Sport Policy?
A higher percentage of the respondents stated that athletes benefit the most from this policy. Most of them associated the word “sport” with athletes only. This is because they widely reflect the term “athlete” with any people who were playing.
Athlete is a significant party with National Sports Policy who really got the benefits from this policy. The benefits such as incentive in terms of scholarship, cash money and many things as a present since they wins something. However, not only athlete who get the benefits from this policy, others Malaysian also have got benefits from this policy such as they may used all sport facilities that have build by government special for Malaysian.
QUESTION 4:
How can National Sport Policy helps in bringing up the integration and unity among Malaysians?
25% of our respondents’ answer revolves around the idea that National Sport Policy does not differentiate when it comes to sport. Everybody has the same opportunity when it comes to sport. Other respondents show a variety of answers from team spirits and team building to providing a platform for each race to mingle together.
It is really practical to use sport as a tools to unite people. Most of our respondents answer that National Sports Policy does not differentiate races. It is because when we look at field, even Chinese, Malay, or Indian, they can play together and this is effect of National Sports Policy.
QUESTION 5:
What is the level of the effectiveness of the National Sport Policy?( 1 being unsuccessful and 5 being successful. )
There is almost average for all level and we can conclude here that National Sports Policy did not fully successful. It is because when we look at all fours main objectives in National Sports Policy, there is some objective which not success at now such as the objective to get a highest achievements in sport. We see that we have achieved a highest achievement but only for a little number of sports such as squash and badminton. There is still a lot of sports that need more attention from government in order to gain a highest achievements as well as to make National Sports Policy success at all.
4) CONCLUSION
At the end of the survey, we know that most of our students who reflect students from third year come from Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Electronics, know about National Sports Policy at least a bit about this policy. Most of them know about the objective of National Sports Policy, and most of them stated that athlete is the most party who benefited from this policy. They also agree that National Sports Policy may encourage unity among Malaysian. However, most of our respondents said that National Sports Policy does not fully success. So, National Sports Policy is a way to unite the people of our country. The government and ourselves must take some effort to ensure our country achieve a good achievements. Indirectly, the people from others country respect and knows about Malaysia.
